Critical Thought: US Army Major: Lose Evangelical Christian Belief
News A research paper written by a U.S. Army major for the School of Advanced Military Studies in Fort Leavenworth, Kan., calls for Americans to lose the evangelical Christian belief of pre-millennialism because of the damage it does to the nation's foreign interests. "As a result of millennarian influences on our culture, most Americans think as absolutists," Maj. Brian L. Stuckert wrote in his 2008 course requirement at the school for military officers. "A proclivity for clear differentiations between good, evil, right, and wrong do not always serve us well in foreign relations or security policy," he said. "Policy makers must strive to honestly confront their own cognitive filters and the prejudices associated with various international organizations and actors vis-à-vis pre-millennialism. "We must come to more fully understand the background of our thinking about the U.N., the E.U., the World Trade Organization, Russia, China and Israel. We must ask similar questions about natural events such as earthquakes or disease." -Article continues off site, courtesy The Grassroots American.

Critical Thought: Evolutionary Biologist Visits the "Creationism Museum"
News BY PZ Myers:
We visited the Creation "Museum" last Friday. I'm careful to put the title in quotes, because it is not a museum in any respectable sense of the word. I knew this ahead of time; I had no expectation of any kind of credible presentation in this place, but what impressed me most is how far it failed to meet even my low hopes. They clearly want to ape a real museum, but they can't — their mission is the antithesis of open inquiry. The guards are a clear example. Real museums have guards, of course: they're there to protect valuable exhibits from theft and vandalism. But real museums want their guards to be discreet and not interfere with the attendees appreciation of the exhibits. At the Creation "Museum", one of the jobs of the guards is to suppress criticism. They hover about in rather conspicuous uniforms, armed with tasers, and some use police dogs to check out the visitors. They don't want dissent expressed in their building, and they admit it themselves.
There was a lot of mocking inside the museum Friday (and to a lesser extent during Dr. Jason Lisle's noon lecture) by dozens of the 285 in the SSA group, and some of the mocking could be clearly heard by many of our guests (especially in our Noah's Flood rooms, but also in the Garden of Eden exhibit when words like "garbage" were uttered, etc.). Several times during the day we had to ask mockers to keep their voices down (I did it five times myself), but generally, it was more peaceful than what we expected (many blog comments from those who were coming were promising some very aggressive actions).

Critical Thought: The Adam and Eve Story vs Modern Science
Blog Adam and Eve versus Modern Science Inspired by, Darwin vs Adam and Eve on Youtube

This series of arguments is relevant only to those that believe Adam and Eve were real people and the logical conclusions that they must face as the result of scientific discovery. More modern Christians have only recently begun taking a more liberal/ metaphoric approach to this story as the result of evidence to the contrary.  If true however, that it's only metaphor, then there's no need for a redeemer. We shall see similarly below if Fundamentalists were to adopt Evolution. Now we can see the problem clearly.

PRO BIBLICAL POSITION CON BIBLICAL POSITION Many Christians believe that Adam & Eve are historical figures. * Modern science confirms that humanity didn't arise from two people. Population bottlenecking alone creates problems for this.
Because of “The Fall” of Adam & Eve, their descendants are born into sin. There was no fall as there weren't two original people. Because of sin, God sent Jesus to save us so that we may saved. Since there were no two original people that fell, there was no original sin, therefore, no need for a redeemer. To be saved is to go to Heaven to be with God/Jesus after death. But since no redeemer (Jesus) was necessary. It doesn't logically follow that there is a Christian Heaven that you'll be going to.

Other Comparisons and Rebuttals: “Well Jesus and Yahweh could still exist.” As shown above, how and why? No fall, no need for Jesus. He'd have no role. No need to believe he exists. If one accepts that one of Yahweh's chief attributes was to create two sinless humans in a garden on Earth from which all humans derive. Then no, that version of Yahweh, cannot exist.

* The evidence for the evolution of all animals on this planet is overwhelming. I recommend one read my accompanying article here. However, let's look a few concrete evidences here:

Critical Thought: Ministry Members Charged in Baltimore After Baby's Body Is Found
News Members of One Mind Ministries drew little notice in the working-class Baltimore neighborhood where they lived in a nondescript brick rowhouse.

But inside, prosecutors say, horrors were unfolding: Answering to a leader called Queen Antoinette, they denied a 16-month-old boy food and water because he did not say "Amen" at mealtimes. After he died, they prayed over his body for days, expecting a resurrection, then packed it into a suitcase with mothballs. They left it in a shed in Philadelphia, where it remained for a year before detectives found it last spring. Tomorrow, five of the group's alleged members -- including the boy's mother, Ria Ramkissoon -- are scheduled to be tried in Baltimore on murder charges. Sources and Ramkissoon's mother said Ramkissoon, 22, has agreed to plead guilty to a lesser charge on one condition: The charges against her must be dropped if her son, Javon Thompson, is resurrected. Psychiatrists who evaluated Ramkissoon at the request of a judge concluded that she was not criminally insane. Her attorney, Steven Silverman, said the doctors found that her beliefs were indistinguishable from religious beliefs, in part because they were shared by those around her. -Article continued off site, courtesy The Washington Post.
