are there any other followers of Christ that listen to this podcast? I have only listened to a few... I actually thought that this was a different type of podcast when I first subscribed.

I believe in God. I believe there was a historical Jesus and that He actually died and rose again. I believe that same historical Jesus was the Creator of our universe living incarnate in a human fleshly body. I believe that Jesus existed prior to His psychical birth on earth. I believe that Jesus the God - man is in heaven and still has a physical body. I believe that the Jesus God - man and the Father and the Spirit are one. I don't understand what I believe like I want to understand it... but I am amazed and thankful that God wants a relationship with me.

Sorry I am not going back and editing what I wrote to insure it is precise and clear... I am just here to introduce myself and begin a dialog.

I'm the one atheist who so far responded to your poll. What would you like to talk about?

I think you should take off the atheist option as atheism is not a belief. (I picked 'other' for the record) I am an atheist though. I think maybe if you'd put agnostic atheist on the poll you'd get alot more hits.

Also, the majority of the people who post here are atheists (as far as I have noticed anyways) and some are a bit of the "bitey" kind so try to have an open mind and an iron skin; you'll need it the more you post here.

Anyways, welcome. I hope we can enlight your 'spirit', entertain your mind, and enhance your logic.

What the does this even mean? I've noticed other odd trends like this with the Christian crowd. Like saying, "I'm Christian but not religious". If you’re not careful, you going to obfuscate the meaning of Christian (follower of Christ) until it’s even more vacuous then it is now. And doesn't "Follower of Christ" just mean "Follower of the bible". Beyond the bible, there's not much information to base what you’re going to follow.

It seems to me people such as yourself are simply taking a legend and crafting an imaginary friend out of it.

You are very welcomed Here! If you are looking to test your faith? I invite you to read the bible from cover to cover without skipping around and look for evidence for Jesus and biblical miracles outside the bible. That's how I became an atheist. That and one simple logical question" If God made us, who made God?"

Hey MG,

I'll let aplacetotalk answer too of course. My pov is that following christ by no means suggests follower of the bible. I interpret the bible to mean the whole book whereas there are simply passages that worth following for many of us but not the whole book.

While I generally don't think of them too often, when I was still closer to be a Christian than I am now, there were quotes of Jesus that were very inspiring to me. That is being a follower of Jesus.

Some may call that cherry picking but I wouldn't. It would just be favorite lines much like a movie that has favorite quotes or a book. Yet we may not even remember the rest of the movie or book.

Perhaps not the entire document, but you'd have to admit if you're going to call yourself a "follower of Christ", the only things to model this path after would be found within the bible itself (and perhaps a few other documents that were concocted many years after his purported life and most Christians reject). So to say you “follow Christ” means essentially you’re following something found within the bible. You obviously can’t follow the real person because he no longer exists… if he ever did.

Something tells me aplacetotalk’s definition of a “follower of Christ” goes far beyond simple inspiration. At any rate, I’ve been inspired by certain works without feeling the need to “follow” it.

There are very few people brave enough to suggest they follow the entire book anymore. From the obvious mythology to the horrific nature of the god of the OT, makes it a document that must be picked over if you’re to maintain any sense of rationality.

But most people don't dogmatically base their entire life off a movie or a book (unless it is of a culturally inculcated religious nature). And of course, usually when we read a book or see a movie we're informed as to whether it's to be taken as fact or fiction... not so with the bible. Many Christians take the bible as history, which is completely laughable if you have even the slightest sense of rational.

Giday, Aplacetotalk,

We can all believe whatever we want to and Christianity is a prime example of believing anything they want.

The thing with calling one's self a Christian, is what type of Christian?
If there is a god behind Christianity, the god has no power to conform it.

If Jesus, Yahshua or whatever his name was ever existed, I would have to conclude that he would had never endorse Christianity.
By all standards he was against religion and religion killed him and religion made him rise from dead. He is created by religion, he was not a creator of religion or the world.

The Jesus story is kinda like Steve Erwin who was called the Crocodile Hunter and he fought for crocodiles he did not hunt and kill them.

So if years from now if his legend was to continue without modern needs of recording his life. People could grab his name and say Crocodile Hunter hey? Lets be followers of Steve Erwin and kill Crocodiles.

Jesus hey?

Lets be followers of Jesus and start a religion.

Get it?

As a follower of Jesus I am not simply a follower of the Bible. I don't believe the two are the same.

I am not religious... AT ALL. I too believe that Jesus came to abolish religion. Jesus was killed by the people who knew the Bible the best so saying that a follower of Jesus is the same as a follower of the Bible is not true. Sorry...

Where then do you get the information required to follow if not from the bible? Is there something I'm missing concerning Jesus and how one would/should follow him exogenous of the bible?

There was no extant "bible" during the purported life of Jesus. Perhaps you're speaking of the Talmud; the ancient book of Jewish myth and allegory?

The people that killed Jesus were certainly followers of the Law. They certainly had the writings of Moses. If you are saying that there wasn't a cannon... you are right - what is your point?

I believe in something bigger than myself. It's called the universe.

the Bible.

I didn't say that I don't consult the Bible. I certainly don't think the Bible is bad or evil, I just don't follow a book.

When I decided to start following Jesus - I learned that in this new relationship with Him it isn't about following rules. Remember learning about the garden of Eden. God said no to the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil. In Hebrews 10:2 (yes - that is in the Bible) it says that if the offerings of goats and animals would have worked then there would not have been a need for more offerings. The big thing is.... when the ultimate offering is paid - there will be no more consciousness of sin or good and evil.

So I don't follow the Bible or rules. I simple follow Jesus and I live in relationship with Him! I HAVE NO RULES - I JUST LIVE WITH JESUS! I CAN'T EXPLAIN HOW GREAT IT IS.

TOTAL FREEDOM TO DO ANYTHING THAT MY RELATIONSHIP WITH JESUS LEADS ME TO DO.

I know you doubt everything that I say... I know that you assume that I am just another weird crazy Christian. I am not. I like people who have nothing to do with church or religion much better than the typical church going religious weirdos...

I don't want to fight with you - I can't change you or anything you think or believe. Most religious people want to introduce people like you to Jesus but I can't -

We can talk more if you want... I checked notify this time and my email is aplacetotalk@gmail.com
