Well, it seems that there is a concerted effort being made among freethinkers in Internet Land to get folks rallying together to draw Muhammad this May 20th (this coming Thursday).
I was made aware of it by a recent video by Thunderf00t on YouTube:
I'm considering participating, since I'm not without artistic skill (I draw my own avatars on most forums I visit, including this one, for instance), but I was wondering what (if anything), other people think about this. A good idea or a bad one? Or just kind of silly, childish, and pointless? Or none of the above?

In my opinion, it'll only become pointless when the ass-hats who threaten peoples lives over it learn to take their religious bullshit less seriously. I'm not much of an artist (although my grandpa was a fairly famous, early California, landscape artist), but I do play WoW. I think Moooohamed might make a great toon name for a Tauren (they look like two-footed cows)
And wow... good job on that avatar.

I'm familiar with them. It was one of them that taught me that
the internet is for porn
(with the help of a troll, I think). If you could incorporate that into your drawing somehow... :p

Thank you. I have more art on deviantART if you're interested. ^^;
Also, another, rather amusing video from Thunderf00t regarding the business at hand:
Personally, I'm not remotely offended by flag burning and I think it ought to be legal on the grounds of free expression (not that Thunderf00t is saying it ought to be
il
legal), but giving these people a taste of their own medicine might be amusing.

What is to consider? I cant do it because I am not tec savvy, but I can in words blaspheme Mohammad which I am quite sure to these self centered asshole zealots would be the same offense.
This all started when South Park in a very mild way metaphorically said to Muslims, will you please stop taking yourselves so seriously. That show has poked fun of Christianity and Jews and ATHEISTS and the worst that show gets from them is "please stop it", not threats of violence.
It isn't about hate for the creators of South Park or even this new "Draw Muhammad Day" it is a principle that civility is not conducted through violence merely because one gets offended.
And this also stems from the Danish Cartoonist threatened with death. He wasn't saying he hated all Muslims, just putting a mirror to those who promote violence by saying, "This is what you look like to us, is this how you want us to view you"
I HAVE a huge problem with ANYONE who cry's "don't pick on me ever". While part of human nature ALL of humanity, is reacting to being picked on, SO IS BITCHING.
If a person, of any label wants to be civil and tell me why a certain context it is bad to say certain things, I am open to that appeal. Just like I would be out of line if I was at a Baptist wedding and shouted "Your god sucks".
As an atheist I would not say to a believer, "You must never say that I am going to burn in hell". I WOULD SAY you are not going to get away with saying that without a response to that claim.
Islam needs its own Thomas Paine and Thomas Jefferson. Religion is not going away anytime soon, but Muslims who think threats of violence will make the world submit to them are going to get the fight they want. To the Muslims who dont want that fight I'd say you need to grow up and tell those within your camp that merely being offended is not a right to harm others.
I am tired of the west's media being pussies about the insecurities of violent Muslims.
SO TO THE MUSLIMS READING THIS, WE DO NOT HATE ALL MUSLIMS, we may find ANY claim of a god absurd, but we just want Muslims to understand that we are all human and part of being human is understanding that in life you are not always going to hear thing you like.
If Muslims want the west to listen then they need to demand that the people in their own camps stop killing merely because the got offended.
What kind of priorities does a god have(any god of any label) if it's top priority is to only care about being picked on. How can it be called "all powerful" if it need's it's fans to protect it.
When any Christian/ Muslim/ or Jew cry, "Don't pick on my daddy" I get the image of a midget standing spread eagle in front of the Terminator shouting, "DONT PICK ON MY ALL POWERFUL DADDY, YOU MIGHT HURT HIM"
How can a finite cartoon or finite human or finite word defeat something claimed to not need human help? And again, what would that say about such a claimed being's if it's most important job was to have finite humans protect it from being picked on?
Fuck any deity claim and any fan of such a deity who has a glass jaw. If I am a wimp compared to such a god, what the fuck should it worry about?
Cancer, aids, starving and dying children by the millions every day, natural disasters and disease killing millions of humans per day, and daddy's biggest concern is to be sure you don't call him names.
No thanks, I will not submit myself to the whims of fans of any being by any name, even I were to assume such a being were real. I am not a piece of property and I will not live my life in fear of violence because some dickhead gets offended.

Think about it, how many atheists here have heard this threat from a Christian, "You wouldn't say that to my face in person".
And if they did hit you, they would get arrested, regardless of the fact you offended them.
I don't think Islam, or any individual human has the right to ALWAYS be free from being offended in every context 24/7 every minute of the day. That is impossible on a planet of 6 billion people.
Attempts to be nice are noble, but cannot be absolutes for anyone of any stripe because every human gets to a point where they bitch. But to project your taboo on others is unreasonable and irrational. The only thing humans in the end can agree on is agreeing not to harm each other even when we hear things we don't like.
Until the the violent Muslims wake up to modern reality, they will continue to be treated in the manor they deserve. Don't get violent and we wont treat you violently.

Hmmm...this could be an interesting test on the practical application of Islamic law.
If those who create images of Mohammed MUST be killed and 100's of millions do go ahead and draw, doesn't this mean that mean we're on the brink of a slaughterfest that'll make WWI and II look like a kindergarten tantrum?
Also, if (for example) 52,875,223 Mohammed-drawers keep their names and locations secret, how can they be identified so that they can be killed?
Anyway, here's my attempt.
To any Muslims reading this message... this is an image of the prophet Mohammed, cursed be his name. Now kill me. If you can find me!
BAA.
p.s.
Hey Anwar! This one's for you! Btw, you still haven't got back to me about what the Quran says about mountains. Still waiting!

Indeed. It's incredible how some people just don't get that and think freedom of speech needs to be limited to prevent us from causing offence to their religious sensibilities. Is that the only argument they have left? "We're offended!" Is that what they're down to? Is Allah really so weak and powerless that a few irreverent drawings of his favourite person cause him unspeakable offence? That makes no sense. An all-powerful god could only take offence at anything
we
do if he chose to, and that's his problem. He needs to grow up and learn that lesson that we all had to learn in school:
ignore them.
While I have my doubts about its actual effectiveness for us, for a god, it shouldn't be a problem.
And to all the Muslims out there who think free speech needs to be curtailed to spare their/Allah's feelings, no one on the side of free speech is trying to legally silence you. Think about that.
