I'm brand new here as of today and wanted to say hello from Phoenix, which is hotter than the tenth circle of hell right now. I'm an atheist of 5 years coming up this October and was raised in a mish-mash of charismatic, baptist, and non-denominational churches. I've only started identifying as an atheist within about the last two years, but I have been open about non-belief in Christianity since 2003.
In the twilight of my Christianity I was a five-point Calvinist for between 2-3 years. If anyone here wants to commiserate about having ever held this particularly dreadful and inhumane set of beliefs, I'd be happy to discuss. To this day I think that this reading of the bible is the most internally consistent, but also the most damning against the character of the Christian god.
I would also like to share some of my bizarre post-deconversion stories. I have tremendous respect for those who leave the shackles of faith with dignity, but that doesn't describe me. Realistically I feel very fortunate to have come out of that dark 1-2 years where things seemed to get worse before getting better.
I don't really have any like-minded people to talk to about all this stuff, so I look forward to connecting with all of you.

Hi, I'm a former Christian, too, and I live not far from you in Prescott! I moved here from Cleveland, Ohio in 2004--quite a change from big city to small town, and I love it. Feel free to share your stories. We'd love to read them!
