They bind us all together - our ancient dreamtime.

Three times in one week!
I'm standing in a second hand bookstore (the sci-fi section) in a town called Newcastle. A young couple of unconventional appearance walk in, she asks, "Do you have any books by
Jenny McCarthy
?" - yes folks, she's probably responsible for some child's future.
I'm standing at the counter of the discount vitamin store... (hey, I like their shave cream OK! Goji Berries don't rate IMO)... the young lady with the UK accent and the wallet full of Gold plastic cards asks "Is there anyone here who does Homeopathy?" - yes folks,
water has memory
...
I'm sitting in my usual cafe and strangely enough, drinking coffee (ahhh, a moment of sanity)... there are people next to me discussing homeschooling their kids, because presumably this will 'protect' them from the 'bad influences' of the state school system - presumably the
selective high school
(about as good as any private well funded one except almost no fees!) is not appropriate for our local Baptist Church community (actually it's in an industrial complex and the sign on the front says 'CBC', OK whatever!)... yes folks, their kids will have little say in the matter. Of course, religion is not about
business
.
I really ought to give up my evil ways and listen to the people around me.
[edit] make that FOUR times in one week!
I forgot the roadside (healthy, organic) cafe with the DVD on constant repeat; "Foodmatters" wherein it is claimed that nutrition/vitamins/happy vibes can cure cancer (and just about anything else)
Quackwatch
begs to differ.
OK, rant over. Promise.

Hello, infidels, believers of all stripes... caught this one on aussie TV last night.
Apparently, the world is going to end (no, not the Vogons)... thought I'd share.
You probably won't be able to watch the vid online (outside the land down under)

Apocalypse Now? (RPT)
Summary
Are we facing the end of the world? American Pentecostal Pastor Ron Weinland believes he has been sent by God to announce the end of the world in 3 years time! In a provocative episode of Compass we meet this self-proclaimed prophet. He believes the end times are imminent, and he’s not alone. Climate change, acts of terrorism and natural disasters have fuelled the current epidemic of apocalyptic thinking. In this Compass program leading Australian commentators; sociologist Richard Eckersley, Biblical scholar Dr John Dickson, literary academic Greg Clarke and psychologist Susan Tanner, tackle the ultimate question.
Richard Eckersley
So that’s the appeal of fundamentalism generally, not just religious fundamentalism. It simplifies things, it reduces things to black and white certainties about what to do.
Oh, so
that's
the appeal.

I was wondering how soon the religiot-vultures would take to comment on the NATURAL disaster in Japan [granted, there's nothing 'natural' about building nuke power plants in earthquake zones...]
I noticed this post on the popular blog by PZ... so now it's the
Atheists fault
(gays etc. youre off the hook for now)
Science??? But, of course,
no!
If you live in the demon-haunted universe, run by [insert your deity/creator god/thaumaturge /mysterious force of choice here...] - then OF COURSE it has to be [insert non-believing out-group (and therefore subhuman) scapegoat (yes I'm aware of the origins of the word] ...here) >
That's right folks... blame the Atheists! Problem solved.
So, it's OK to have a little geophysical genocide to get the GOOD NEWS across is it? What's the matter?!? Pascal's Wager not good enough anymore?
