That... is... awesome...
I was once pestered by Jenovah's Witnesses. Only twice. Though, at the time, I was agnostic, so it really didn't bother me. It wouldn't bother me now, but I'd tell them that I'm of a different religion (or lack thereof in my case).
The scary thing was they knew my name.
Oh GOD (lolironylol)!! I can't get that Australian dude's voice out of my head!!

Wow that was a real classic... I also could have watched a whole hour of him going door to door....
You see how rude they are? Can't take their own medicine, although it would be fair to say that some of these people probably would not like going door to door themselves.
I would have liked to see them open a door to some of these young men who come door knocking.
What is it about Mormons? THe other day I saw two guys getting out of their car, white shirts, black tie, black trousers.. and immediately you have to think, "ah.. mormons"... it's the way they dress, they are always aged around 16 to 25. It's never the older people, why is that, does anyone know?
They freak me out.
Now all we need is someone doing this to the JW's, of which we get now and then in my neighbourhood. I hate it when they bring the children.
I just don't have the nerve myself to do this. (I'm too shy hehe)...
But the thought has often crossed my mind.
Can I brag and say, I'm proud that this guy was an Aussie? hehe....

LDS members TYPICALLY go on a missions right about their 18th birthday: Boys for two years, girls for 18 months (but it's not as expected of females). However, you may go at any time and older people DO go on missions. An example is BYU football coach LaVell Edwards who went on a mission after retiring from coaching. Why do they typically go at such a young age? It might be in the "Doctrine and Covenants", but I'm unsure as it has been almost 20 years since I read it. I suspect they go at about age 18 because it's the most convenient, for example, going at age 25 would be difficult as most LDS members at that age are starting a family-- and that's VERY important in Mormonism. One of the major complaints people have had about the BUY football team is that their members tend to be a few years older and bigger due to their mission.
What baffles me more than anything about LDS missions is that, with rare exception, the LDS church does not assist the missionaries financially. Travel expenses, food and everything else are paid by the missionary and their family.
I get the impression that he was being hounded by LDS missionaries. This is not their typical practice. The "Doctrine and Covenants" explicitly states that if you're told to leave you are to do so and never return unless they request. It is very clear on this point. I encountered some missionaries on July 24th (Pioneer Day, the state holiday celebrating the Mormon pioneers entering the Salt Lake Valley) while going to buy beer. They approached me. We spoke for a few minutes then I told them I was an atheist. "well, you do believe Jesus existed, don't you?" "Not exactly" I replied. Then I added "please leave me alone" and they did just that. Trust me on this, Mormons are nowhere near as annoying as Jehova's Witnesses and nowhere near as overbearing as Southern Baptists or Pentacostals.
Also, he seems a bit misinformed in his allegation that Mormons worship Joseph Smith. They donnot. As the inventor of their faith, Smith obviously plays a huge role, but Christ is at the center of the religion. And cash. Money plays a substantial role in the religion, although most members would get angry if you told them. Here in Salt Lake there used to be a statue of Brigham Young on the corner of 100 South and Main Street and there was a running joke among non-members (aka "gentiles") regarding Young's location: With his back to the Temple and his hand extending to the bank on the corner. Needless to say, the statue has been moved just a bit.
Still, it was funny. I have no idea where in Salt Lake he was-- or even if he was in Salt Lake as opposed to a suburb. He should have gone up around the avenues where many University of Utah students live. They might have offered to give him a beer and a bong hit.

Yeah, you're right on this, I guess. Actually, my only experience with Mormons proselytizing was in college. A swarm of 'em came to my university one day, and in the morning, I was hassled by "Elder Bell." What's with that "Elder" shit anyway? The dude was younger than I was. Also, any fuckhead can become a bishop, whereas in the Catholic Church, that title actually meant something. Anyway, later in the day, I was eating lunch with my friend, and we had a visit from Sister I-don't-remember-her-name-except-that-it-wasn't-as-funny-as-Elder-Bell.
She started talking about Mormon theology, and I pretty much knew the story at that point, but I was a bit naive and thought the Mormons probably play down the stuff about tribes of Israel in the New World and so on, but oh no, she went right into it. After about 20 minutes, I had to excuse myself, because she was a fairly nice girl, and I was so close to exploding and telling her it was the stupidest thing I'd ever heard, and at least Christianity can claim the creation story is allegory and so on, but their claims fly in the face of all the evidence from genetics, not to mention common sense (namely, the common-sense principle that you shouldn't believe some jackass who says he found magic golden plates with ancient writing near his house but won't let you see them).
If it had happened today though, I would have just let her have it.

That was just about the coolest thing I've ever seen in my life. And I say that as a former Mormon missionary myself.

John Saffran is a genius. I love his show and am glad an aussie friend told me to pirate a copy. "John Saffran vs. God" is the name of the show.
