My Name is Donna. I am from Athens, Ga and have been an atheist since around 11. I wasn't aware of the fact that I was until later in my teens. I just knew that the religion thing sounded very similar to the tooth fairy and santa claus. I refused to admit it to anyone except my closest friends. Over the years I have become more vocal and active in SOCAS issues. I have tried to get a Freethought group going in Athens. I have a teenage son whom I embarrass frequently with my views. But he's adjusted well and claims to be an agnostic at this point in his life.
I recently had a debate with a friend on being apathetic towards religion and politics, trying to make her aware that it does her affect her life in many ways.
The biggest issue I face is there are a couple of people who seem to take great delight in announcing very loudly in public places that I am an atheist. I'm not ashamed, I just know what the backlash can be like here in the South and it does tend to make me a wee bit nervous. I noticed a new member here from the ICOC. My boyfriend is a former member from the one that was here in Athens. Nasty bunch. Very psychologically damaging.
Anyway, this is getting a bit longwinded for an intro, so I'll stop here and just say "Hi Ya'll!"

You obviously just don't want new people reading the thread I'm referencing and seeing your true colors. How do you figure that wanting to show new people what you're really like constitutes a mental illness?

Agreed. Reg is the only person here I have a problem with. The community (other than Reg) is a great group of people.

Yeah, except I wasn't debating Reg at all - I was calling him out for being an arrogant, self-absorbed dolt for the way he condescendingly replies to his fans.
I like how the only point of this post on your part was to imply that I'm the one who is immature. The irony there is fantastic! =) In truth, there's nothing that I've said that's been in any way immature. On the contrary, notice how Reg never ONCE addressed anything I said regarding his lack of humility, OR his habitual failure to ever thank anyone for positive feedback or express any gratitude at all toward his listeners. The fact that Reg doesn't ever address my REAL points testifies to HIS immaturity, not mine. I challenge anyone to show where, in his posts here, Reg expresses any gratitude or humility toward anyone. Ive read many threads, and have yet to see that anywhere. There may in fact be some evidence of this somewhere, but its clear from what I have read that if that does exist, it exists in miniscule quantities.
I realize this is getting a little redundant, and this will be my last post. The only reason I'm posting on this again is because Reg posted again with that last comment for no other reason than to take a pot-shot opportunity to suggest that I was being immature, AND because despite everything I've said and despite the factuality and validity of my points, he still continues not to show even the faintest signs of humility. Its a good thing you DID change your last signature Reg, because you clearly don't "practice what you preach."

In all sincerity and seriousness, all I'm trying to do Reg is show you that you DESPERATELY need to work on your humility and social skills. Just be KIND to your fans!!!!
