As an archaeologist I have posted several videos online talking about the Bible and archaeology. (You might also spot me belly dancing also but that’s another affair.) For the past year, however, I’ve been busy with a custody fight concerning my boyfriend’s children. His ex-wife felt it was “mental abuse” that we were teaching the boys evolution and that we told them it was alright not to believe in God. She made a false accusation of sexual abuse to get custody, a very common tactic. It was in the context of this custody fight that I discovered a religious organization successfully taking over the child protection system, a system in desperate need of reform as it is.
There is a protocol called “Finding Words” that is being taught as a technique for interviewing children when there has been an accusation of sexual abuse. It is an extremely faulty technique guaranteed to create false positives and distort the memory of the child. These people are victimizing children and putting the innocent in prison based on this method. They are receiving millions in federal money to teach Finding Words across the country.
Behind this drive to teach Finding Words is the director and founder of the National Child Protection Training Center in Winona, Minnesota, a prosecutor named Victor Vieth. There is a good reason Finding Words is not based on science. Vieth doesn’t view abuse as a crime to be solved or a behavior problem to be understood and addressed with science. Vieth views child sexual abuse as a sin to be punished. He has described Finding Words as a train driven by faith and favors the quote by Psychologist Erik Erikson “the most deadly of all possible sins is the mutilation of a child’s spirit.” Vieth is on the board of an organization called GRACE. Godly Response to Child Abuse in a Christian Environment. He has proposed a plan with the Biblical name of Unto the Third Generation which he says will end child abuse in 120 years. Basically the plan is to turn the country into a police state where a huge cadre of people trained in his technique watch our every move to make sure we raise our children in the approved manner. Nothing in his plan will do anything to address the issue of child abuse. It’s based on the concept of vengeance not science.
To see the effect a false accusation has on a loving father, like my boyfriend Bjorn, and to know the turmoil that has engulfed the lives of his boys since the accusation has been made has had one powerful effect on this nonbeliever. There is such a thing as Hell. It’s right here on Earth.

Well, we are off to court again on 4/29. We showed the DVDs of the kid’s interviews to an expert on child interviewing and he said they were proof that there was a criminal conspiracy to separate Bjorn from his kids and falsely imprison him. This expert says what these people are doing is child abuse and estimates that this one interviewer has put at least 30 innocent men in prison. That’s one relatively new interviewer in an organization that sees about 1,000 kids a year.
Meanwhile another million has been thrown at the Vieth’s faith based training center while we sell off everything we own to come up with $4,000 to get this expert to testify for us on the 29th.
I’ve always believed that the right response to injustice is not to drop to your knees and pray but to stand up and do something about it. Spread the word. Let’s shine the light on these cockroaches. |

That's just great. People who hold near and dear a book that condones the stoning to death of disobedient children think they should be in charge of child abuse... When I become king of America that is one of the first places I'll be sending my newly formed stupid police force to raid. And there will be multiple charges of felonious stupidity. |

How can child abuse be a sin when it is condoned in the Bible? "Spare the rod, spoil the child" does not place any limits on how hard or how often the rod is to be used, or for what reasons. And as JOBA pointed out, the OT advises stoning a son to death if he doesn't obey his parents. There are no commandments saying, "Thou shalt not molest, beat, or otherwise torture children." God had no problem drowning children in the Great Flood, or burning them to death in Sodom and Gomorrah, or punishing children for the sins of their parents in Korah's rebellion. The Bible does talk about children being a "heritage from the Lord," but the Lord, himself, seems to have very little respect for them. Despite having all these omni-qualities that Christians brag about, God does nothing when children are abused. |
