New non-irc chat

We have a new flash chat installed.

I apologize to the IRC users for me not giving much notice but then again, neither was I. I hear that there are many other irc networks for atheists, in fact, some left infidelguy.com:6667 to go to those new ones. I hope the irc folks find a new home. I thank you for keeping it running as long as it was but it's time to move on.

No.. I will not bring back irc. I have wanted it gone for over 3 years but I only kept it due to harassment and threats. I have grown over the years and frankly, I just don't care about those "IRC fundies" that will give me a hard time about this.

This is a final decision.

Feel free to organize where the irc'ers plan on moving too to conduct their irc chats. People are asking why didn't I give enough notice. Honestly.. I simply didn't move everything over to the new server like I planned. When I realized that IRC wasn't moved over, I doubted whether I even should. During that doubt, the old server became unplugged.

As many of you know, IRC has always been a very touchy area for me as it's hard to find people I truly trust to moderate it effectively and to update it, upgrade it.. while at the same not installing other programs for their own private purposes. I think FAK was the only one that let me know step by step everything he was doing and he did so in a very timely manner. I can't say that for everyone else I gave access to my server to. I won't mention any names.. but some people took advantage of the privileges I gave them.

With my new chat.. this is no longer a problem. All forum mods are chat mods.. admins, are chat admins. Just like I've always wanted. You get banned from the site, you get banned from chat. Just like I have always wanted. Pros and cons for any chat server and chat client. But we'll make do.

Anyway.. feel free to discuss what new irc server you all wish to congregate. I will even link to it provided it's not a Bash The Infidel Guy party there "every day". Some days is okay though. Wink

Well IG, nobody is using the flashchat. I stayed for a while but nobody else came along, other than Omorpheus and Knight of BAAWA, with occasional visits by a couple of others. I do like to chat rather than post on forums, and I have no idea where everyone went to from your old IRC room. I suspect they just left in disgust, but I don't know; we were just suddenly cut off .... the rug pulled out from under us. Losing fans is not a great thing IG, and I am one of your biggest fans. Your site changed my life; but now I have nowhere to go. It's pretty depressing.

I didn't think the flash chat was too bad, although I prefer IRC I'm happy with it. The biggest problem is that the word didn't get out before the switch. If we could have notified people for a couple weeks in IRC before the switch we probably wouldn't have gone from like 20-30 active members to 2-3. Most of the IRC people just found another atheist/freethinker channel to migrate too. (There's quite a few of them).

Well this answers my question. I just signed onto the forums to find if I could find the server for IRC so I could talk to people I haven't in awhile, all to find out there isn't one anymore. Sad

There's a couple places on IRC that you can find people who used to hang out on the IG server. If you're desperate for some IRC chat and don't know where to go, PM me and I'll show you.
