Veteran teacher Kathy Martin is seeking election to another four-year term on the Kansas State Board of Education.
Martin, a Clay Center Republican and one of the board's four conservative members, is the first to file for election to the District 6 seat, which she took on three years ago after retiring from a long teaching career.
The move from teaching children to implementing policy has been a sometimes frustrating one, Martin said. In her classroom, she noted, she could quickly make changes to help students.
"If we want to encourage something new with state policy, it's like pulling teeth sometimes," she said.
Some of the policies that Martin has advocated riled some scientists and health workers. Among them was a board policy encouraging districts to have parents opt their children into rather than out of sexual education. And the board's changes to the state science standards being more critical of evolution drew a circus of media to Kansas.
If one believes that everything in the universe was created in 6 literal days, I cant stop them from believing such absurdities. BUT, if the Scopes trial and most recently the PA trial where JUDGES, most likely believers, cant stop the onslaught of stupidity, I don't know what will.
If these idiots would treat their deity like a game of Dungeons and Dragons outside of politics, I wouldn't care less. But they have another thing coming if they think they can compete with their holy books and replace science textbooks with them.
And they are idiots on top of that as well. Muslims in the middle east treat their holy books as law that over rides science. Is that what we want to become here?
