Their URL is appropriate

These two are fun to watch as they struggle to reconcile their obvious thoughtfulness with their religious constraints.

Sin is:
Quote:
an offense against God, religion, or good morals

so...
Quote:
Is it (masterbation) a sin?

Against an imaginary god?
Most likely not.

Against a human created religion?
Certainly.

Against relative human morals?
Sometimes.

Perhaps a more interesting question would be, is religion mostly if not completely to blame for human taboos and absurd fears over sex? Without religion, would or could sex be seen as no more immoral or embarrassing then eating a piece of pizza?

Most likely not. If you take the postition that religion is man made, then the absurd fear over sex and other taboos may not go away. Humans put their own fears of what repulses them into religion. Secondly, there are complex emotions surrounding sex. So, there would still be some obsessing over it.

Yes, I'm sure you're right the taboos wouldn't, at least immediately, go away. What I'm more interested in is if religious superstition isn't at the root of these taboos and fears. In other words, without religious superstition, would we have developed them in the first place? I can’t of course be certain, but I’m fairly convinced our views on sex would be very much different and less confined without the taboos built by religious superstition.

Had there been no religious superstition, maybe those irrational fears may not be manifested and taken as truth. So, sex might not be as taboo as it is today.
