The arab landscape in the period prior to when Mohammed arrives was one of little hope and much conflict - forget slavery, we have warring tribes, warlords, systematic raiding and raping of villages, mayhem. Mohammed comes along and is the catalyst uniting the "Arab nations", he is an inspiration to people. All they have known is relentless fighting and bloodshed for generations. Is bringing order out of chaos a good thing or a bad? Not saying Mohammed / Quran don't have issues, but look at it relative to the social dilemma and culture of the time. Of course there is aggressive language in the Quran, are you smoking crack?
How exactly do we envision the writers of religious texts to be? Living in the lap of luxury? Typing on laptops from the sauna, thinking, "hmm... I need to promote some destruction, I want my followers to be like pitbulls"
