The absolute veracity of the quran underpins islam. One flaw, inconsistency, untruth or contradiction in this book invalidates the whole religion summarily.

Wow.... AWESOME ARTICLE! I just can't wait to find out what they learn! What a dickhead that guy is for hiding that stuff for so long. That definitely gives me the impression he realized what a powerful danger this is going to be to the Quran and Islam.

Quote:
"The whole period after 1945 was poisoned by the Nazis," says Günter Lüling, a scholar who was drummed out of his university in the 1970s after he put forward heterodox theories about the Quran's origins. His doctoral thesis argued that the Quran was lifted in part from Christian hymns. Blackballed by Mr. Spitaler, Mr. Lüling lost his teaching job and launched a fruitless six-year court battle to be reinstated. Feuding over the Quran, he says, "ruined my life."

Believers will go to any length to protect their faith even when they know its wrong. Just like this Spitaler fuckhead.

The sad part, however, is that its not going to bring about any "End of Islam". Biblical criticism certainly didn't bring about any "End of Fundamentalism".

The faithful train their whole lives to close their minds and close their eyes and use their faith as a tool to get around ANY challenge to their religion.

I think we can use modern quran scholarship to chip away at islam, but "the end of islam"? Not a chance

I couldn't say it any better myself. They use faith as the ultimate trump card. Faith takes precedence over anything else including evidence and reason.

I suspect Muslims will have the usual stock answer to this:
They will call it a lie, then bomb the hell out of it.
Easy.

No muslim will believe this. It will dismissed as infidel lies and forgery.

Even if prominent muslim leaders discovered this and rejected the faith many muslims would still be muslims for the same reason we still have christianity in the western world after decades of enlightenment...blind faith.

That will take centuries to remove fully.

How does any religion go away? Isn't it just always replaced by another one?

Probably not the end of Islam, but it will certainly help erode faith.

I agree. For those muslims who are beginning to question. This kind of stuff might also make it possible for some kind of liberal, nonliteralist version of islam to flourish. Literalists are always the craziest of any religion.

Unless the research stems from Muslims themselves, it'll just be seen as some plot to undermine their faith (as they are constantly accusing the West). Come to think of it, even if it did come from Muslims, they'd just say that they became apostates. The unfalsifiability of religion is absolutely amazing. The most theists are generally willing to do is move from one religion to another and in Islam, even that's impossible.

The funny thing is that there is already enough damning evidence in the Quran and Hadits to invalidate Islam as a hoax, but nobody bothers to look.

Read here and here just for starters.

Quote:
Islam is a caustic blend of regurgitated paganism and twisted Bible stories. Muhammad, its lone prophet, conceived his religion solely to satiate his lust for power, sex, and money. He was a terrorist. And if you think these conclusions are shocking, wait until you see the evidence.

The critics of this work will claim that Prophet of Doom is offensive, racist, hatemongering, intolerant, and unnecessarily violent. I agree - but I didn't write those parts. They came directly from Islam's scriptures. If you don't like what Muhammad and Allah said, don't blame me. I'm just the messenger.
