Did any of ya'll out there see James Randi last night on Anderson Cooper. He was brought on to talk about the validity of Sylvia Brown. The opposing view was Sylvia's agent, sorry I can't remember her name.
The discussion talked a lot about how many times Brown had been wrong, and then the argument got a bit nasty. Every time that Randi tried to give his view, this other woman repetedely yelled over him and then she actually brought out the Athiesm card. Basically saying that Randi had no right to speak about the subject because he was an Atheist.
Now I don't know about you all, but I am getting a bit tired of hearing this argument. I watched an interview on Fox in regard to a monument in front of a Florida courthouse, and it may have been O'Rielly suprise suprise, who wouldn't even give the Atheist even 5 seconds to speak.
I am very anxious to to the result of James Randi's foundation actually going after these preditors. Maybe our voice can finally be heard, and this world can move in a more civilized direction.
Randi has been going after these predators and has investigated less vile characters for many years.Recently he and his fellow investigators have shifted their focus to the more famous as he has been inundated with so many bizarre claims and mentally ill types that he wants to concentrate more on the Sylvia Browns of the world. At least that is what I recall from a recent reading of his website.
The Cooper piece is easily found online and after viewing it yesterday I agree completely with your point as the tired old ad hominem(He's an atheist! ) was trotted out a couple of times by Brown's business manager/agent/con artist or whatever assistant. Anderson Cooper pointed out her tactic quite well. Unfortunately poll data suggests we atheists are among the least trusted minorities in the U.S. Logical fallacy,yes-points scored among many in the general public, probably yes again.
