Watch out for demagogues that try to lead you into unnecissary wars.
Don't assume that we have a free press when the corporate media floods the market with trivial things and ignore more important things.
Get organized and do abetter job explaining things to the public so they have access to the information they need to make intelligent decisions.
Pay attention to small conflicts before they get big and try to solve them without the military whenever possible.
The greatest tyrants were all abused children before they became monsters. They were condemned to hell before they commited their crimes. Stop child abuse and tyrany and crime will drop dramatically in the long run. This lesson will not prove itself as a quick fix but it will do much more good in the long run than just about anything else.

And just because your gay, doesn't mean you have great politics. Look at Hitler.
Stauffenberg, Hitler was an admitted Christian, specifically a Catholic. He may have gotten an Aryan Church started for the people, but so far as I am aware, he never repudiated his Catholicism, nor am I aware whether or not the church ever got around to excommunicating him.
Hitler was NOT gay. I don't know where people get this info, but the man was very anti-gay. He had tens of thousands of gays thrown into the camps and executed. Even though the guy never had kids (Thank the Fates for THAT!), he put into place uber-breeder programbes such as the Lebensborn Programme. I mean as far as gays were concerned, this character reached levels of persecution that modern fundies fantacize about.

History teaches us that those who see the world as it is without embellishement will always be opposed by those who resort to superstition and ignorance. Witness the closure of the Academy in Athens, the burning of the Library of Alexandria, and the Inquisitions...

Morals are derived by humans as a result of our evolution, and evolve with each generation. The biggest insult to human dignity is to presume a magical source.
Micky Mouse, Harry potter, Star Wars all convey morals we can relate too, without believing that the characters are real, or their magic real.
An Ancient Egyptian would have had the same reaction to their house being robbed as anyone in any country living today.

History doesn't teach anything. We teach ourselves from our interpretations of what we know about history. From this I've learned that we live and we die, future generations will never really know what we have done and then we are eventually forgotten.

Among the biggest lessons that can be gleaned from history, of note would be:
The vast majority of the human race seem to be rather simpleminded..
The simpleminded do not care about history.
Those who do not care about history, also have a rather restricted view of the world around them..
Those who have a restricted view of the world around them cannot understand why others do not share their views.
And wars eventually ensue because of this..
Being a lover of history, I find myself a bit unhappy to be agreeing with this and the refinements of poster

Still, take this paradigm, throw in a healthy dose of Sun Tsu, and we may have something worth thinking about.
Btw, that recipe isn't complete, but I continue to work on it. Once refined, I will patent the formula, and start mass-production. And then the world will be sweet and tasty once again!
