Okay well, it appears that they are showing the infamous wifeswap episode again. Lifetime wears that episode out. It's been almost 5 years and yet it's still one of there best aired shows.
Anyway.. before you new folks start attacking me, please read what really happened.

Back at the time there was a debate amongst board posters as to if he should do the show or not, I was one of those who ill advised him to do it. I guess I was thinking the publicity would help his radio show and this website.
They did a hatchet job on him. But my theist friends at the time, were even saying they could see through the bad editing. Many were touched by Amber's kindness to the daughter. And were also miffed as to why Reggie was willing to wear the Christian baseball cap, but the father was unwilling to wear the atheist shirt.
Reggie hated the stress the crew was putting both families through. The crew did it's best to cause or attempt to create controversy to get on tape. I look back at it now and wish I had not advised him to do it. But, if any good came out of it, it lets other atheists know that it is ok to be an open atheist. |

I just wanted to say it was a breath of fresh air to see you on Wife Swap! I have never seen this episode before, and from one atheist to another--thank you for the representation, and taking the chance to be open and transparent! |

honestly i found you from that episode so let it run the more the merrier. it made me very angry that they tried to show your family as the evil ones when they are clearly engaging in behavior that is considered child abuse in most states. ie most soaps have poison control labels for a reason. but don't worry the free thinkers out here in tv land saw it for what it was and applaud both of yours self control. i would have so laid that woman out in five minutes or less.i so know how bad a fundie can be most of my family is one and is still trying to convert me. thus the reason i have a few staes between us. |

I really don't think Reggie and his family came off negatively at all. Everybody knows these shows edit for entertainment value. It's absolutely no surprise. They have a job to do, and that is to entertain. If Reggie didn't intend to have the story bent and twisted then he should never have agreed to be on the show. I think that Amber and Reggie were actually treated really fairly by reality show standards, and I was honestly a bit more creeped out by the Stonerocks. I really think everyone's making way too big of a deal of this. The Finleys came across as caring, compassionate adults who are capable of change for the betterment of their family, without sacrificing their beliefs or moral code. I don't really know how the Finleys could have expected to come across any better. So why so defensive?
PS- I am Jewish, so I'm not a non-believer, and I still think the Finleys looked great on the show. So relax, chill out, and allow the show to garner you more laudits and subscribers! Any publicity is good publicity! |

Heh.. hey everyone. Thanks for registering and posting. I hope you keep coming back. Yeah that episode was over 4 years ago. I appreciate my fellow freethinkers for seeing right though the crapola.
If you missed it. You can read what really went on here: http://www.infidelguy.com/article48.html |

Not normally a daytime TV watcher, I stumbled on the episode this afternoon and like other members decided to look up your website.
While the show clearly edits for impact and effect, Amber was portrayed beautifully, handling that household far better than most people in her position. Reggie was portrayed as a fiercely intelligent man who represented non-theists well.
A couple of months ago, my 15 year old daughter said, "hey Mom, you should go on the Wife Swap show." I told her I'm not sensational or interesting enough - but as soon as I said that, I told her that the truth is that they probably would play up my atheism to be all that I was really about - and I'd end up with some bible-belt fundamentalists. So forget it. |
