Poor lose homes due to forced annexation, Lexington, NC

This is not a joke, this is your NEW America without any "Social Responsibility" . If you live in NC, move, you may be next;
The town closest to me is Lexington, N.C., this small ghost town is going broke, as most if not all industry has gone to China or out of business. North Carolina is one of 3 states that can use a law from 1959 to force communities into the city limits and double their taxes without the consent of the home owners. I moved from the city to escape double taxes.
In June of 09 the city has voted force me back into their tax base. They offer all the services like sewer we already have, our sewer is FREE, but they want to charge us for theirs, it will cost each home about 2,800 to hook up to their sewer system. It will cost many of us up to $200.00 more to live in our own homes, auto taxes double also..

We live in the rolling hills red clay and cow pastures. We being non city residents did not get to vote on this forced annexation, a city councilman told us, publicly we live in a Republic, I assume like China . We have marched and protested and have now boycotted the city. When people in our community met with city officials they were told we were moocher and freeloaders. Between the city and me is a large country club with lovely homes which will be taxed for millions in property taxes as a whole and not a person there has said they wanted to be taxed to death and not all people who play golf have unlimited incomes. Many people there have lost well paying jobs and some may have larger homes but also larger bills. Many are older retirees who are widowed or have children to support.
We the county residents are suing the city and they are using tax payers money to fight us. We are county tax payers but the county is not paying our legal fees; does that not sound illegal to you ??

To me this is the most immoral attack on American soil since 9/11, only this is being done by the Lexington Taliban.
The people who live beyond the country club are mostly working class folks most retired and or elderly, many are disabled some have kids or grand kids to care for. I have been saying to everyone, myself included, to sell and move but in this soft economy no one can sell plus there are houses not being annexed for sale less than 1/4 of a mile from us. Many do not want to move , half of these resident are struggling now to buy food medication and gas. We have lots of single parents with children who WILL suffer. I am retired and my budget is stressed due to unplanned gas prices plus heating cost and food is on the rise. The John Locke foundation says this law is unconstitutional. The city Mayor says the city has already hired the best legal minds in the nation to force us to live and pay taxes in his town. If I cannot sell my home by June I could lose it or seek chapter 13 and then may lose everything I own..

I listed my house forsale to avoid losing it to for closure next year. My chances of selling are slim as so many house are being sold at half the market prize.

All towns have the power to steal since the UCCS Kelo decision, but that was about eminent domain, not annexation.

They are a bunch of lawyers that specialize in individual and property rights cases from a libertarian perspective. While they have lost some, including Kelo, they have won some good ones. This sounds like a severe case of taxation without representation. After all, if you can not choose your government, you are not free.

I have heard that nobody really owns their house or property--they just rent it from the government, who can come and take it for whatever reason they can contrive.
