A Letter From Lucas

Now and again, I'll receive letters from someone that inform me of how much my show has changed their lives in some way or at least helped them solidify their beliefs or lack thereof. People sometimes forget the impact my show has on people around the world. I know I do. It's letters like these that should remind you why you shouldn't cancel your support to IG Productions. Thousands of people around the world are changing their minds, and you can help them. I lost 10 people in 3 days.. lets recoup those losses.

Dear Mr. Finley

I just wanted to thank you for your work. For the past few years your
radio program and website(s) have helped me through some of worst
years in my young life, and by help I mean a profound sense of clarity
and calm.

About seven years ago, right out of highschool I was ostracized from
my family for confessing my long held agnosticism. Shortly thereafter
all familiar emotional and financial ties were severed, I was even
forbidden to contact my younger siblings (who were then ten and
twelve) To add insult to this injury I was told I was damned, hell
bound, and sinful…all of these accusations were targeted at a young
man who had never drank, smoked, used drugs, had pre-marital sex nor
verbally or physically abused his god fearing parents at any time.

What caused this schism was the fact that I could not lie anymore
about accepting something as nebulous or intangible as god, Jesus or
angels into my mind. What I didn't know and what nearly caused me to
take my own life was the fact that this "Christian love" ends when you
point out the holes in the dogma or try to discuss the intellectual
poison that justifies violence and degradation on a personal and
global scale.

I suppose could go on and on about the frustration and anger that this
cultural/religious struggle has caused my family and I but I'm sure
you've heard and experienced this story many times before. I also
know that money talks and right now I have little to spare. I hope to
finally send you a donation as soon as I find another job (I just
moved from Seattle to Eugene).

Thankfully this long chapter ends happily with me finding a person who
does not pre-judge me and accepts my atheism as a part of who I am.
We hope to start a family soon.

Thanks in part to your programs I finally see others who feel at
peace with a disbelief in god(s), heaven, or hell. Reading and
listening to Infidel Guy has also reaffirmed my own beliefs and
brought me closer to a rational and atheistic existence grounded in
respect and wonder for this experience we call life. Thanks again.

Sincerely (and in reason)

Lucas Erickson
