Anglican Bishop Rejects Pope's Views, Calls for Gay Christianity

In the wake of Pope Benedict announcing, again, that the Catholic Church was staunchly opposed to homosexuality, those lovable rogues at the Anglican Church, following in the proud tradition of Henry VIII forming his own church so he could get divorced, called for the formation of a gay Christianity

...The Bishop in question, Gene Robinson, made the statement in London, and continued to attribute the struggles of the church in the modern era to a lack of nuance that has made it appear dangerously fundamentalist.  It is possible, he opined, to simultaneously believe in the sanctity of life and that no one may tell a woman what to do with her body, for example; he also famously clamed in 2005 that the best defense against religious attacks is a religious defense.

To that end, Robinson believes that his beliefs have biblical support; he readily cited a passage in John where the disciples were informed that they were not ready for the totality of Christian teachings, and infers that the acceptance of homosexual Christians is among the teachings not recorded.  Homosexuality is akin to race or gender biases that have been erased over time, not a dogmatic crux, says Robinson, who believes the suffering of the community has left a greater capability for compassion than rests among straight Christians.
