I guess it's time I address this, because folks like this don't realize how idiotic that sounds. "Real Job" first of all, is subjective. A guy that monitors a corporate network for someone else, now that's a real job, but a guy that serves his community isn't a real job?
These are my duties:
Webmastering
Promotion
Marketing
Accounting
Scheduling
Lecturing
Conducting Radio Interviews
Public Relations
Appearing on other radio shows
Customer Service
Editing
Custom Commercial Spots
.... the list is even longer than this actually.. ask anyone that does this full time.. oh wait, there aren't that many. I am the first after all. Many of the broadcasters that have tried to follow in my footsteps have failed. They quickly realize that there is more work involved than they ever imagined.
When people claim that I don't have a real job, they are also saying that Infidels.org's full time employees don't have a real job, Full-time PBS employees don't have a real job etc.. any organization or private individual that uses donations to help pay salaries, complete projects and pay expenses isn't a real job apparently. :rolls:
I think alot of this stems from envy. But the funny part is that there is nothing to be envious of. I live in a one bedroom apartment with my son. I live month to month and I have a cabinet full of Ramen noodles. September, October and December are my business' worst months, so it makes sense to ask for donations to keep things going. Paul Kurtz has organizations that ask for donations more frequently than I do... but no one is calling him up telling him to get a "real job".
I am not a non-profit organization, but then again, I don't have to be.. although I am considering it. Yes.. I use your money to pay site expenses, travel expenses, phone costs, internet service, power, special projects and more.. and yes, I pay my own salary. Believe me, if I were rich.. I would be investing like crazy and/or living off the interest. Sigh.. would be nice.
I need about $10,000 to do what I need to do.. but unfortunately... I cannot save up that much when operating on a month to month income.
Anyway.. just felt like ranting. I'm growing sick of folks that are so unhappy with their lives that they feel like they have to try and make my life just as miserable and dark as theirs.
I donate to pro-profit groups often because I think they deserve it for whatever reason. If you don't want to help, you don't have to.
So yeah.. I ask again, please donate to one of your favorite folks on the web.
