In the vein of Kirk Cameron and Ray Comfort, a church has placed a warning on the front lawn to all of those non-Christians driving by. The warning is essentially, even though you think you are a good person and can live without us (the church and jesus), you can still go to Hell. In other words, come to our church, convert to Christianity, and give us more money. barf!!
What kind of sick crap is this? This image was sent to me by my new e-buddy "K" that took this image in Snellville, GA. She's a school teacher, in fact, this church is near the school. Poor kids.
One has to really wonder about the mindset of someone that would place something up like this. And.. the members? This shows you how much power the Pastors have over their flock. No doubt, many of his congregates do NOT agree, but they will sit quietly and say nothing. Isn't this more evidence of how some religious moderates don't really help. At home they support us. But in the public square, they are deafly silent. Sheep I tell you, sheep!
So essentially, this is the message the pastor doesn't realize he is espousing. Being a good person, treating your fellow man kindly, being honest, feeding the poor, being a good parent, creating cures for disease, showing tolerance, being a 911 hero, dying while protecting your family from harm (self sacrifice), supporting those that do not support you, turning the other cheek, etc.. are all NOT good enough in God's eyes to go to Heaven. Nope.. none of that even matters unless you accept Jesus and God. You in fact deserve eternal torture and suffering. What kind of sick crock is this?!
A good analogy I suppose, would be: My child does his homework everyday, makes straight "A's", treats his siblings well, cuts the grass, helps with dinner, doesn't fight at school, is honest etc.. but none of that means anything unless he accepts that I am the best parent ever. If he doesn't agree that I'm the best parent ever, I will prod him with a branding iron. wtf? Isn't that extortion? So, God is an extortionist? Who knew?.
Wow.. how can people believe such stuff uncritically? Use your mind people! How loving is your god to send someone to Hell for being real, for being honest? Why is God so concerned with belief in him anyway? It doesn't make sense. Surely a supposed being as powerful and as loving as him would be beyond such stupidity.
"Believe I'm the best daddy ever or I'll stick you with this hot poker. You are deserving of the Hot poker for your infidelity son, surely you understand? I may not poke you today, maybe not tomorrow. But believe me.. not believing I'm the best parent is a guarantee that you'll be prodded with my branding iron. So, straighten up kid, and confess that I am the best parent ever!"
"But dad.. I have done everything you said to do and more; in school, in my personal life. I think I'm a good kid. My friends say I'm a good kid. Mom says I'm a good kid...."
"-- No!! You aren't, you are destined for torture unless you say you believe I'm the best parent ever. Say it!!"
sigh.. Please Bethany Baptist Church, tell your pastor to take his threats and shove it! I ain't worshipin' here no more.
